Dell Latitude D630 Business Laptops Review, Specs and Cost

dell latitude d630
Dell Latitude D630 is laptop cool which very admired, the Latitude D630 is also a first-class and road ready business laptop. This laptop comes with 2GB of RAM pre-installed on most models and storage capacity going all the way up to 160GB hard drive on selected models. Dell has thrown in an Intel Core 2 Duo processor ranging from 2GHZ T7300 to 2.4GHz T7700. The Core 2 Duo's are extremely fast. http://elaptops.blogspot.com

Considering that the laptop would primarily be used for business purposes, a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M discrete video card is not bad for graphics display. It comes with 128MB of dedicated video memory. Add in the 14.1" wide-screen display which is not only bright but has a matte finish as well and you have a winning platform for office productivity. However, the screen doesn't host any webcam, as featured in most other competitive notebooks, nor does Latitude D630 have built-in microphone. Those in constant need of video conferencing will definitely not welcome this aspect of the machine.

new dell latitude d630
Internet connectivity options, very vital for the mobile businessmen, are also great on this notebook. It boasts of 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity, as well a Wi-Fi catcher functioning even in shut down status. Mobile broadband, WWAN, all are available as an option to integrate into the laptop.

The 9-cell extended battery really turns this model into a power horse, even watching DVD's at full brightness will only drain the battery after 4 hrs 45 minutes. A smaller mouse button size due to the presence of a fingerprint reader is probably of little concern if you are in a place where you can use a normal sized mouse or will be primarily using the comfortable keyboard more than anything else.

Review Dell D810 Laptop Battery

Review Dell D810 Laptop Battery
Dell d810 laptop is known for various good features it has, but also for its excellent battery life. But in time it is normal that a laptops’ battery to wear off, especially if you keep your laptop plugged in while you work on it, it depends also on the type of applications you run and so on. It would be ideal to adjust the brightness of your display to improve the battery life, to unplug any external devices you have, perhaps even change the resolution of the screen and most importantly keep the laptop running by it and only when the battery has drained out completely recharge it.

But if you are in need of a Dell d810 laptop battery, then you can find a replacement for it, even if you look in stores, online or at their official store. You just have to make sure that no matter from where you buy the battery; it is original and compatible with your laptop model and number. Such a battery costs around $38, but again it depends where you shop.

Now that we have settled with the Dell’s d810 laptop battery, let’s see the other specifications this system is known for. To start with, we can mention its sturdy design, full range of business ports and connectivity options and the three-year warranty. If you are looking for a desktop replacement and with a fairly good list of specifications, then you can rely on it. The laptop is not as light as you would expect, so try to find a sturdy laptop bag or case for it, because if you decide to carry it just like that, you will surely feel the pressure. What is more, the keyboard lid has been improved and the internal frame is harder and less likely to break. The keyboard is big enough to be comfortable and the layout is intuitive. Because the touch pad has a reasonable distance away from the keyboard, there are few chances you will accidentally hit some arrows when typing. The LEDs you see are for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and whenever you activate them, the lights will go on. There are also some external keys, for adjusting the volume and the mute button, but other than these, the system is not designed to meet intense multimedia use.Review Dell D810 Laptop BatteryYou can configure the laptop depending on your needs and on your budget. You can choose from the processor you want, to the memory on-board. But the configuration options are available on the website only. If you buy the laptop from the store, you can’t change anything it has inside, rather than upgrade the system yourself after the purchase. An example of configuration includes a Pentium M Sonoma processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, the 15.4-inch” display with a native resolution of 1680x1050, 80GB hard drive and ATI Mobility Radeon X600 graphics card. You can also choose among optical drives, if you need a DVD-RW or a simple DVD-ROM.Review Dell D810 Laptop BatteryAmong the features missing, this Dell laptop lacks the FireWire and parallel port. But besides these two, it comes packed with the other essential connections you need for business. There are four USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet, S-Video out, smart-card slot and the Type II PC Card slot. For protection, there is a password-protected chip for your personal information

Dell Latitude D420 Laptop Reivew

Dell Latitude D420 Laptop Reivew
Dell D420 belongs to Latitude series of notebooks and these systems have always emphasized more on function than the form. But with the D420, the company has put in some decent specs and has made it look attractive as well. This ultraportable notebook is the smallest from this manufacturer to date. The battery will live up to one working day and the Latitude D420 is a good competitior to other systems in this price range like Lenovo 3000 V100. The system weighs 1.36 kgs and is has upgraded Intel Core Dup chip and costs about $2300. I would recommend this for business users and consumers who need portability and power at the same time.

The silver and charcoal case of the Dell Latitude D420 looks really attractive. The dimensions are 295mm, 25mm high and 209.8mm deep. The latter will rise to 241.3mm if you opt for a nine cell battery. Fitting the laptop in laptop cases and shoulder bags is really easy. The chassis is almost all metal and this makes the system look sturdy; it will easily handle rigorous traveling. Dell says that the notebook is RoadReady; which is the proprietary design from the company and it means that the product can handle extremes of temperature and humidity and mild falls and shocks.

Dell D420 has a 12.1 inch WXGA screen with resolution of 1,280×800 pixels. I found it hard to read the text on the small screen with small resolution but Word processing or Web surfing was just fine. The display is really crisp and this makes up to some extent for the loss of impact that you get with a smaller screen. This is certainly not the brightest of notebooks that I have seen to date but still you won’t have any problems reading from it in a office that is well lit.

Dell Latitude D420 is compact and yet manages to put in a full sized keyboard in to its case and there are not hard to hit or oddly placed chiclet buttons. For the touch pad, there are two sets of right and left mouse buttons, above and below the touch pad. This touch pad can be set up for vertical or horizontal scrolling which is great for navigating through documents or Web pages.

The Dell D420 has a basic collection of ports that you’d need in a business machine. This includes mini FireWire port, two USB 2.0 ports on the back, SD card reader, PC Card slot, headphone and mic jacks on the left. For the video, there is just a VGA port. Networking options include modem, Ethernet, 802.11a/g wireless and there is Bluetooth too.

Dell Latitude E6410 / 14,1-inch Notebook Review

Dell Latitude E6410 / 14,1-inch Notebook Review
With strict security system, this notebook can protect data in it with adhesive. First saw this notebook, we got confused myself. Because the appearance Dell Latitude E6410 is a lot like Lenovo's Thinkpad notebooks. One of the most obvious is the existence of TrackStick which is one typical facility Thinkpad.

TrackStick facility consists of navigation buttons (trackpad) and two buttons to click left and right. Thanks to the trackpad, we can move the cursor with your index finger oscillation; much like we move the joystick. Although his intention ease, we were quite a pain. The reason our fingers easily slip when using a trackpad, so then we prefer to use a more familiar touchpad.

Similarities with Lenovo ThinkPad notebook is already indicated segmentation targeting business segment. It is also evident from the design of the box and tend to be conservative. What's interesting is this notebook uses TriMetal Chassis technology, which combines aluminum, magnesium, and a layer of steel in various parts of this notebook. This combination makes the Latitude E6410 feels solid. It took considerable pressure on the back of the notebook to give effect to the screen. However, these materials have consequences on the weight of this notebook which reached 2.27 kg.

To support its performance as a business notebook, the notebook will find a lot of security features in this notebook, both ordinary and "extraordinary". The usual is a fingerprint reader, sensors that will read your fingerprint. What is remarkable is the SmartCard Reader. For your information, SmartCard is an identity card with a special integrated circuit, much like an ATM card. With these facilities, you must insert a special smartcard for access to this notebook. In addition to security, other facilities provided for U.S. $ 1,580 notebook is also complete. Express Card facility that has been left out of other notebooks, available in this notebook. You'll also find high-speed connectors in self FireWire and eSATA.

But there is one that interests us, namely DisplayPort which is on the back of this notebook. DisplayPort is the video connection as well as audio which is projected to replace VGA and DVI. But in its development, prestige is less than the HDMI DisplayPort. This can be seen from the use of the HDMI standard in various television and monitors. It was exactly what explains why notebook during almost all provide facilities HDMI and DisplayPort instead.

Because that's somewhat surprising why Dell would prefer DisplayPort over HDMI. So if you want to connect your notebook to an external display device, you should look for TV / monitor that provides the plug-which according to our knowledge is limited choice. The notebook itself relies on an Intel Core i5 520M (2.4 GHz) assisted DDR3-667 memory capacity of 4GB. This combination can produce a responsive and reliable performance are used for office applications. Unfortunately, good performance is only supported hard disk capacity is "only" 250GB notebook-class is small for a premium like this latitude E6410.

Dell Latitude E6420 laptops Review

Dell Latitude E6420 laptops Review
Dell's Latitude line has long been a favorite of businesses large and small because of its strong performance, good pricing, and long battery life. With the new 14-inch Latitude E6420, Dell has added a strong dose of style and durability to this tried and true formula, using a new Tri-Metal design with a durable magnesium frame that's built to stand up to abuse. Inside, the E6420 packs a punch, thanks to a second-generation Core i5 processor. Still, the $1,361 price tag for our configuration is a bit steep--even when you factor in the touchscreen. Is this Latitude worth it?
Design

The Dell Latitude E6420's aesthetic screams "space age" while still looking right at home in the most conservative corporate boardroom. The gunmetal-gray brushed metal aluminum lid, matte chrome sides, and angular shape combine to make the notebook look like some kind of executive space cruiser. Meanwhile, the soft-touch, rubberized deck is as comfy as the inside of a corporate limousine. Add in a matte chrome accent on the bezel, matte chrome hinges, a zinc latch, and a bold orange stripe around the keyboard, and you have a truly unique design.

But the E6420's Tri-Metal chassis is more than just eye candy. A magnesium alloy internal frame and reinforced steel hinges combine with the matte chrome bumper and protective LCD seal to provide a business-rugged system that's MIL-STD 810G-tested and designed to protect against extreme temperatures, dust, and vibrations. A spill-resistant keyboard guards against your clumsiness (or someone else's).

The trade-off for all this durability is added heft. At 13.9 x 10.3 x 1.3 inches and 6.2 pounds with the nine-cell battery, the Dell Latitude E6420 is quite a bit heavier and larger than other 14-inch business notebooks. For example, the Lenovo ThinkPad T410 measures 13.1 x 9.4 x 1.3 inches and weighs 5.6 pounds with its nine-cell battery.
Keyboard and Touchpad

The Dell Latitude E6420's spill-resistant keyboard offers an excellent typing experience by combining strong tactile feedback with concave keys that grip your fingers and a comfy soft-touch palm rest that's easy on your wrists. We were able to achieve a rate of 86 words per minute with a 1-percent error rate on the Ten Thumbs Typing Test, higher than our typical 80 wpm score. The keyboard even has an adjustable backlight to help you see it in the dark.

For navigation, the Latitude E6420 has both a touchpad and a pointing stick. We're big fans of pointing sticks in general, because they're usually more precise than touchpads. Unfortunately, Dell's pointing stick, while accurate, has a concave cap that felt slippery under our index finger and left us longing for the grippable, textured nubs on Lenovo's ThinkPad line.

Dell Latitude E6420 laptops Review

The generous 3.1 x 1.8-inch touchpad on the Latitude E6420 has a pleasant matte surface that made it easy for us to navigate around the desktop with great accuracy. After enabling gestures in Dell's easy-to-configure touchpad control panel, we were able to pinch-to-zoom with ease and conduct three-finger gestures such as Flick, which lets you hit the back button in your web browser. The two discrete mouse buttons offered solid feedback.
Heat

The Dell Latitude E6420 stayed pleasantly cool throughout our testing. After we streamed a video for 15 minutes, the keyboard measured 87 degrees Fahrenheit, the touchpad 85 degrees, and the bottom center a reasonable 95 degrees. We consider temperatures 95 degrees and lower acceptable and those below 90 degrees quite comfortable.
Display and Audio

The Latitude E6420's 14-inch, 1366 x 768 glossy touchscreen provided images that were sharp and bright, though not overly rich in color. When we played both a 1080p QuickTime Trailer of Cowboys & Aliens and a 720p streaming Flash episode of Fringe, images were crisp and free from visual noise. However, colors washed out significantly at even 45 degrees to the left or right.

The optional touchscreen digitizer on our unit ($100) allowed us to tap even small widgets and icons on the screen with great accuracy. It also supports two-finger gestures, so we were able to pinch-to-zoom on web pages or draw in two different directions at once in Windows Paint. However, considering that the Dell's screen does not rotate into tablet mode or support pen input, we don't think many businesses would choose the touchscreen over the standard one. Dell doesn't even include any touch-friendly software.

The Latitude E6420's speakers are adequate for listening to music or video in a small room. When we played both the bass heavy "Forget Me Nots" and the percussion-centric hip-hop song "Like a G6," we heard accurate, loud audio that wasn't tinny but wasn't particularly impressive.
Ports and Webcam

Because the Latitude E6420 is marketed to enterprise customers, it has a couple of ports which a lot of small businesses and consumers don't necessarily need. On the right side sits a Wi-Fi on/off switch, three USB ports (one of which has eSATA support), and an ExpressCard /54 slot, which is mainly useful for large businesses with specialized or legacy peripherals that use that connection. On the back are an HDMI port, Kensington lock slot, and Ethernet. On the left side are one more USB port (for a total of 4), VGA out, and a Smart Card reader, which is a port mostly used by large businesses for security purposes. An SD card reader sits on the front of the notebook.

The 2-megapixel webcam on the Latitude E6420 was able to provide sharp but slightly washed out images even in our dimly lit living room. However, whether we were shooting photos locally with the Dell Webcam central software or conducting a call on Skype, we noticed a fair amount of visual noise in these low-light images. Still, were impressed with the cam's ability to capture clear images in an environment where most cams show our head as nothing more than shadow.

Dell Launches Latitude E6220 Laptop Review

Dell Launches Latitude E6220 Laptop Review
Sure, the Dell Means Business event this morning was a bit of a snore, but amidst all the talk of backlit keyboards (egads!), four-times faster hard drive encryption, and cookware-inspired design, we spotted a rather attractive (perhaps even enticing) enterprise system — the Dell Latitude E6220 laptop. According to Dell, this 12-inch thin-and-light is targeting “field workers” like us, so we wasted no time getting some hands-on time with it alongside our trusty 11-inch MacBook Air. Check out the gallery below, and read on for our first impressions.

Despite being a pre-release unit without a battery installed, the E6220 felt solidly built. The screen lid is inlaid with brushed metal while the main body of the laptop is made of black plastic with a silver rim. The edges of the bottom cover are tapered in the front and sides, making the system look thinner than it actually is. The rear protrudes beyond the hinges and contains all the ports, just like the Adamo — in fact, the styling reminds us of the XPS 14. On the left side you’ll find smart card and SD card readers, as well as audio, eSATA / USB, and VGA connectors. On the right side there’s an ExpressCard slot, wireless switch, two USB ports, and an HDMI connector. Power and Ethernet are located in back, with a docking interface on the bottom.

The 12-inch screen uses a matte finish and while we’re not sure of the exact resolution, it’s likely 1366 x 768 pixels. Quality seemed on par with LCD panels found in other modern laptops. There’s a webcam above the display, flanked by a pair of microphones. We liked the full-size keyboard, which is backlit and features standard key travel. The trackpad works as expected, including two-finger scrolling, but the buttons felt a little too mushy. In addition to the trackpad, the palmrest incorporates an RFID reader and a fingerprint scanner.

Under the hood, you’ll find an Intel Core i3 CPU with integrated graphics, your choice of hard drive or solid state storage, plus a plethora of wireless options (including 3G). Performance seemed adequate for a Core i3 laptop running Windows 7, despite a reported Windows Experience Index of 1.0 (which we suspect is inaccurate, since this was not final hardware). Our unit, which was equipped with a 2.1GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, and a hard drive, loaded Engadget and other websites without any drama. Dell was mum on pricing, availability, or battery life, but we expect the E6220 to be competitive in the enterprise market.

Dell Latitude D410 Notebook Review

Dell Latitude D410 Notebook Review
The Dell Latitude X1 and was quite impressed with the simple non-flashy design. But I really dig a bit of a darker look to a laptop, and the Dell D410 with its dark charcoal grey and silver finish is rather striking. It reminds me a bit of the Fujitsu LifeBook styling, which I like a lot. The dark finish and industrial looking fan vent also gives the D410 a bit of a muscular look, the Ford Mustang of notebooks if you will. The silver latch on the screen adds a nice finishing touch and professional look.

The build is sturdy, this notebook doesn't flex. The chassis uses a tri-metal blend of aluminum, magnesium and steel while the case shell is constructed of a very rigid plastic on the body and keyboard area. The lid is constructed of magnesium alloy that offers great protection of the screen and a great look as well. So the build is overall good, This shouldn't be the case with a business notebook, that's a cheap finish solution and it kind of ruins a perfect 10.0 on the overall build.

Ports and Input:

The Dell D410 does a good job of providing a nice number of mainstream ports, but unfortunately we don't get FireWire and we don't get any type of media card reader...which is a real shame. We do get 3 USB 2.0 ports, which is very generous for an ultraportable computer. I like the fact there's a PCMCIA card slot for accessory expansion, something the Latitude X1 lacks. Let's just take a tour around this notebook to see everything that's available in terms of ports.

Dell Latitude D410 Front side

Front side: On the front we have the battery compartment and also the latch lock.

Dell Latitude D410 Left side

Left side: On the left we have from front to back, a large air vent, infrared sensor, another air vent, 1 USB 2.0 port (bottom), stacked on top of the USB port is a D/Bay connector for an optional external optical drive, and finally a security cable slot.

Dell Latitude D410 Back side

Back side: On the back side from left to right we have the ethernet port, modem port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, video out port, AC adapter connector and then some more air vents.

Dell Latitude D410 Right side

Right side: On the right side we have from front to back the hard drive bay, smart card slot right above the hard drive, then PCMCIA slot for accessory expansion, and then the headphone and microphone jacks.

Screen:

Dell Latitude D410 Front

The screen on the D410 is a 12.1" XGA format LCD, no widescreen and no glossy finish. It's a very nice screen, some will no doubt be happy to find a portable notebook that hasn't gone widescreen The screen brightness is good and there's none of that "sparkle effect" we've seen some complain about on certain Dell LCDs. Screen brightness can be controlled using the "Fn" key in conjunction with the up or down arrow.

Sound:

The good news with the speaker on this notebook is that it's on top of the notebook. On the Dell X1 and IBM X41 ultraportable laptops I recently reviewed, the speaker was found on the bottom of the laptop. Of course, since it is just one speaker you don't get stereo sound, you'll need headphones or external speakers for that. The speaker is an 8-ohm, 1-W speaker and thereby neither produces great sound or volume. The headphone jack is on the back right side.

Heat and Noise:

I mentioned before that the D410 was a champ in terms of the wrist rest area staying cool and comfortable. I also noted there were a lot of vents on this notebook, certainly more than typical on an ultraportable. The Dell X1 has no vents, it uses passive cooling. With a 2.0GHz processor, the insides of the D410 would melt without a fan and vents. And so while these vents do a good job of keeping the notebook cool where it counts (keyboard and wriste area), the underside at the back of the D410 does get toasty, especially if you're pushing the notebook.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Dell Latitude D410 Keyboard and Touchpad

It was a good first impression in regards to keyboard and input experience. I'm happy to report that the keyboard, touchpad and pointing are just dandy when actually used. The keyboard on the D410 is slightly larger than the Inspiron X1, and it is definitely easier to type on. The touchpad and mouse buttons are equivalent in size to those you see on a larger thin-and-light notebook, and certainly larger and easier to use than the Inspiron X1's. The pointing stick makes it easy to move the cursor around the screen and use the notebook without a mouse for those, such as myself, that just have never found a touchpad they love.

The actual feel of the keyboard is good. The key travel and feedback are excellent. The keyboard feel and usability is not quite as good as the ThinkPad X41 keyboard, but close. Those that prefer having a touchpad, which the ThinkPad ultraportable series does not have, will likely prefer the D410 user input options.

Wireless:

Built-in wifi is standard on the D410, the 802.11b/g Intel ProWireless 2200 comes standard while the 802.11a/b/g Intel 2915 is an optional upgrade. Wireless works well as far as connecting to available wireless networks, but not exceptional. I can get better range on my ThinkPad T40, this is mostly due to the fact the antenna on the ThinkPad is housed in the screen.

You get a wi-fi LED indicator at the top of the notebook to indicate that wireless is enabled or not, there's no dedicated button to turn wi-fi on and off though, you have to hold in Fn + F2 to toggle wi-fi on/off. Also, the wireless configuration software is just the Windows/Intel default application, no extra software like the IBM Access Connections for managing multiple wireless profiles or that cool Toshiba utility that shows wireless networks in a radar view.

Battery

The Dell D410 offers great battery life. With just the standard 6-cell battery I achieved 3:40 minutes of battery life using screen brightness at 6/8 level, using the computer to write a document and surf the web (so wi-fi was on). If battery life under 4 hours isn't enough, then the extended life 9-cell battery is available. I used the 9-cell battery during a 35 hour trek back from Hong Kong (many flight transfers and delays involved in that trip) and squeezed 7 hours of use out of the 9-cell battery. That was while using wi-fi at the various airports, using IM to chat, MS Word to write this review and with 6/8 level brightness.

Conclusion:

The Latitude D410 ends up being a nicely designed notebook with a great power to size ratio. I don't think there are too many other 12.1" sub 4lb notebooks out there that can compete performance wise with this machine when it has a 2.0GHz Pentium M, 2GB memory and a 5400RPM hard drive. But does the target audience of business users need that power? Pretty darn doubtful, and you need to watch out for heat buildup if you do go the route of a high-end configuration with the 2.0GHz Pentium M. When you include the standard 3-year warranty for a Dell Business notebook, competitive pricing and good usability of the D410 this becomes an attractive ultraportable option. Just be aware it is not the lightest ultraportable by any means, it's close to 4lbs and so serves well for those who want relatively light weight and size but also need power.

Pros

* Great new dark look and industrial design, very good solid build.
* When configured with a 2.0GHz processor, this is the fastest ultraportable out there.
* Good usability with the dual pointing device option (touchpad/pointing stick) and good keyboard.
* Good battery life.
* Good media bay and port replication options

Cons

* The faster the processor, the more heat you'll get at the back of this notebook -- possibly too hot for the lap.
* No media card reader slot.
* No built-in optical drive.
* Pushes the line on being a true ultraportable as it's about 4lbs and much thicker (1.25") than the typical 1" thick ultraportable such as a Latitude X1 or
