Samsung one of the well-known notebook maker has announced the launch of its new notebook namely, Samsung Series 7 CHRONOS premium notebooks at IFA 2011. The Notebook which has dubbed MAX screen technology. The 7 chronos models will come with an Intel Core i7 processor, a spacious 750GB HDD and 8GB of DDR3 system memory. There's also some extra flash memory on the motherboard that's said to result in faster startup times and enhanced performance.

The new Series 7 CHRONOS notebook can wake from sleep in around two seconds and is ready to go from cold in just 19 seconds, representing a 33 percent improvement on previous models. This is achieved thanks to ExpressCache technology that sees an extra 8GB of flash memory on the motherboard, coupled with the raw power offered by Intel's Core i7 2675QM Quad Core processor running at 2.2GHz.

The CHRONOS will be available in two screen sizes, both with an outdoor-friendly 300-nit brightness and 1600 x 900 resolution. The model featuring the anti-reflective, LED backlit, slim bezel 15-inch display weighs just 4.78 pounds (2.17kg), and the 15.6-inch screen version weighs 5.09 pounds (2.31kg). Both versions are 0.94-inch (23.9mm) thin and feature an AMD Radeon HD6750M GPU with a gigabyte of dedicated GDDR5 memory.

High definition audio is supplied by Samsung's SoundAlive audio technology through a pair of 2W stereo speakers and a 2W embedded subwoofer. The notebooks run on Windows 7 Professional (64-bit edition), have a backlit keyboard that incorporates useful ambient light sensing auto adjustment and are shipped with Samsung's Easy Migration software that help take the strain out of file transfer from an old computer over USB connection, Ethernet or Wi-Fi network.

Finishing off the specs are two USB 3.0 ports and a USB 2.0 port, a 4-in-1 media card reader, a Super-Multi optical drive, HDMI-out, a 1.3 megapixel high definition webcam and wireless connectivity in the shape of Bluetooth 3.0 and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi.

The included 80Wh, 8-cell battery is said to offer up to eight hours on a single charge, and Samsung's Battery Life Plus technology is also reported to significantly extend the useful life of the battery.

According to DigiTimes' industry sources, HP and Dell will launch their first ultrabooks sometime after rival system vendors, including Acer, Asus, Toshiba and Lenovo. The former reportedly plans to ramp up ultrabook production at the end of this year via Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta Computer, while the latter company has contracted Wistron to produce a 14-inch machine that will be displayed during CES 2012 in January.

The sources also revealed that Wistron is manufacturing Acer's 13.3-inch Aspire S3, Compal Electronics is working on the 15-inch Aspire S3 as well as Lenovo's IdeaPad U300s , while Pegatron Technology is whipping up Asus' 11.6-inch UX21 and 13-inch UX31. We haven't seen too many strict release dates, but most of those devices are expected imminently -- certainly before next year based on existing information.

Because HP and Dell will lag behind their immediate competition, some folks believe the companies intend to ship their initial offerings with Intel's next-generation 22nm processing architecture, Ivy Bridge. Although that isn't impossible, it seems unlikely. Tecra M9 weighs just a little more than 5 pounds which is not that great for a 14.1" machine. Dell Latitude D630 is much lighter and then there is Fujitsu LifeBook S6510 breaking all records with a mere 4.0 pounds weight, again for a 14.1" laptop.

At $3,433, this large notebook is powerful but at a very high price. Part of the large expense is due to the high performance desktop processor used in the DRX. Equipped with a quad-core Intel Core i7 950 CPU, the DRX runs at 3.06GHz. While there is no doubt that this processor is extremely powerful, one has to wonder if this chip is necessary when Sandy Bridge processors are now on the market. It would be nice to see an option for the Intel Core i7-2600K for a much lower price. Undoubtedly, what you're paying for is the ability to run this full desktop processor in a laptop chassis.

As mentioned above, the DRX can be personalized with close to any color. Whether you're looking to match your laptop to your sports car or simply wish to make a bold statement, Falcon Northwest can make it happen. And while it's pretty darn cool to be able to have such a personalized piece of equipment, the overall cost of the machine is a drawback due to its midrange components. By midrange, I mean the graphics card, memory, and hard drive are merely average. The Falcon DRX 17-inch notebook is equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 1.5GB GDDR5 graphics card. It's a great card, but it is way too dated for a laptop of this caliber. For nearly $3,500, it's expected to have a high-end AMD Radeon HD 6970M, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M, or a dual card setup. The same holds true for memory. The machine comes with 6GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM for $3,433. To upgrade to 12GB is $198 more, which would be quite reasonable if the starting price wasn't so high. Hard drive storage space is also below average with a 320GB 7200RPM drive. And yes, an upgrade to a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive is under $55, but many laptops under $1,000 offer the same amount of storage space, which makes the Falcon Northwest DRX a below average value.

Overall, if you simply have to have a custom paint job to make your laptop stand out, Falcon Northwest is a viable option. However, the components in the DRX are too outdated to make it warrant the hefty price tag. The standout features are the powerful desktop processor and top-notch paint job.
